Boat in the Bay is a family-owned agency specializing in luxury yacht charters in Phuket. They personally inspect each boat in their collection so they can bring you the best yachts in the charter market of Thailand. They approached Phuket Web Media to edit some existing aerial footage into a short video presentation.
Jetstar filmed part of this TVC in Phuket and commissioned Phuket Web Media for the Underwater scenes. Shot on an Arri Mini in a Gates Housing, we provided shooting and location logistics for each of the underwater scenes.
This year I was invited along on the Raya Divers end of season expedition. Every year they head to a new and exciting dive destination and this year it was to the Sogod Bay in Southern Leyte in the Philippines. We dived with Pete’s Dive Resort in Padre Burgos and kudos to those guys for looking after us so well. Especially for letting me dive wherever the hell I pleased for as long as I wanted every dive.
I was filming with my new Nauticam Rig, housing a Panasonic GH4 with 12 – 35mm F2.8 glass. I shot the whole trip in 4K just for fun. The underwater portions of the filming will be shown on Earth Touch Wild Oceans later this month, but for now here’s a quick intro to the trip.

In December 2014 I travelled to the remote island of Hoga – part of the Wakatobi archipelago off the South East corner of Sulawesi. Essentially I was there collecting marine footage for Earth Touch. While there I met Melody Lynch who was living in a small Bajau community as part of her fellowship program. I spend many days filming the Bajau people in their beautiful stilt village of Sampela and also out fishing and sailing around the immediate area as they showed me their prowess in the water. Bajau are renowned free divers and I personally witnessed divers descending easily to 20 meters without the aid of fins or flippers.

All Star Lifeguards is a Finish reality TV series that filmed it’s 1st season here in Phuket last year – on beautiful Koh Racha. This march we just finished filming the second season, with all underwater footage being provided by Phuket Web Media with our new Panasonic Lumix GH4 with a Nauticam housing.
The video above is the trailer for last year’s season 1 which met with huge success and with season 2’s filming now complete it looks like we may be filming For France and Turkey later this year as the concept was met with great interest at Mipcom last year.

Phuket Web Media and Nubla Productions of Madrid teamed up to create these shorts about the dangers facing todays oceans. Many species are tottering on the brink of extinction and it’s a question of when, not if they are gone forever. Here in Thailand we are lucky enough to have protected marine reserves where otherwise endangered species are actually doing quite well.
Leopard Sharks and Hawksbill Turtles can be seen daily on any dive trip to the Phi Phi Islands National Marine Reserve. Whale Sharks are little tougher to find and the footage below was filmed at the awesome Cendarwasih Bay in West Papua, Indonesia.
